Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch,Harley Sylvester, Gemma Jones, Gugu Mbatha-Raw ,Sameena Jabeen Ahmed, The Theory of Everything, Belle, The Guvnors, What we did on our holiday, and Black Sea were amongst some of the winners at the 1st annual National Film Awards UKThe successful awards evening took place last night (Tuesday, March 31st ) in London. The National Film Academy brought together celebrities from the film , music and television industries together to celebrate the best talent on and off screen. The National Film Awards is one of the only motion picture awards ceremony whose nominations and voting are fully determined by movie fans.
On the 20th of November, the call out for nominations was marketed across over 2.5 million TV fans on the NRTA voting database and 155,240 academy members . Nominations for the National Film Awards were submitted by the public between the 1st of December till the 19th of December . Over 756,000 movie fans took to the National Film Awards website to cast their submissions in the 15 categories. Voting officially commenced on the 12th of January 2015 and the deadline for all voting is the 13th of March 2015 and with over 1.8 million votes received. The attendees found out the winners last night and you can find our full list of winners revealed today.
TV Presenter, Louise Gookey was fantastic at hosting duties joined by guest presenters Simon Homent, Linda Robson, Tulisa, Keith Chegwin, Caprice, Michel Bracke, Tanya Franks, Danny John Jules, Ben Hanlin, the cast of Good Girls Club, who announced the winners of the National Film Awards in the UK during the glamorous event. Classical music impresario, Mark Llewellyn Evans aka ‘The Barritone’ put a note worthy performance classed as one of the major highlights of the event.
Idris Elba recieved the Outstanding Contribution for Motion Picture and he commented “The National Film Awards is gearing to become one of the iconic driving force in the motion picture industry and it is fantastic that the driving force behind the award are the movie fans whom without them, there will be no movie industry. I would like to thank the National Film Academy for this great honour”.
British Actress, Gemma Jones also received the 2015 Global Contribution to Motion Picture award. Gemma Jones is one of Britain’s most acclaimed actresses. Best known for her roles as Bridget’s mother in Bridget Jones’s Diary , and has starred in Harry Porter, Fragile, Forget me Not, Madam Poppy Pomfrey, The Theory of Flight, Captain Jack and a host of other great films in her inspirational career.
